How Far Can We Go?

Though many of my friends scold at me or call me an "idiot" for believing conspiracy stories, I still read about them. Theories about aliens, or simulations, or evil corporations, and creatures from the crypt. These things do sometimes scare me. Because what if there is something that is truly out there. Something that would cause danger to us.

In class this week, we discussed the piece, "The Measure or Restraint," talks of the continuous want for knowledge, and how that could ultimately lead us to our own demise. 

I think one that comes to mind for a lot of people-- aliens. Aliens' existence is a highly controversial topic. Me personally, I think it's possible for them to be out there. There is a theory called "The Great Filter." It is described as a force that prevents life from expanding. This "filter" could be anything from a universal storm, black hole, or super advanced alien race. 

What is scary is that, if the theory is true, has human kind overcome this "filter," or have we just not approached it yet? If humans have overcome the issue, it is possible that discovery could lead to a race that is just as advanced as we are. But if the "filter" is something that humans are coming toward to, then it is possible that there are still many existing race. Leaving the door open for many possible intruders.

But aliens may seem too far out for some. So lets talk about something we are nearly on the brink of...Artificial Intelligence.

The world is constantly evolving, and technology has been a massive part in it. Making other things do the work for you, a concept most of the world understands. For a robot, the main end goal is to make a robot learn and think on it's own--Artificial Intelligence. It would allow essentially a robot to be sentient, have a mind of it's own. But movies have always theorized the possibility of robots coming to the conclusion that humanity is an issue. Movie like I, Robot or Avengers: Age of  Ultron, have we learned nothing?
